Feline Health Research
Morris Animal Foundation research has helped thousands of cats through the years. On this page, read stories about the "faux felines" that represent the types of successes we've achieved for real cats around the world.
Jack:
"I spent six weeks in a shelter, where I got sick with upper respiratory infection. With MAF's research for shelter cats, cats like me will stay healthier and happier until we can all find good homes."

Max:
"Thanks to decades of MAF studies, my risk of getting feline leukemia was
lowered because I've been vaccinated."

Harley:
"When I was first diagnosed with diabetes at age 12, my human mom had to
give me insulin shots twice a day. But then an MAF study showed that my
condition could often be managed with diet. Now, I've lost weight and
don't need shots – just tasty, high-protein food!" Read more
about this feline diabetes
breakthrough.
Pandora:
"When I first started running around a lot and lost weight, my parents
were thrilled. (I was a bit chubby.) Luckily for me, I had my yearly doctor
appointment, and she discovered I had hyperthyroidism. That's why I
felt so frisky. I was treated right away before I got really sick. I
hope other cats are as lucky as I was." Read more about what MAF has
learned about early diagnosis of hyperthyroidism in cats.
Bailey:
"I was diagnosed with heart disease when I was 8. My dad was really worried
that I could die from a related blood clot. (Sounds scary!) Thanks to
research funded by MAF, I'm on medication that will help keep these clots
from forming. I plan to live a long, long time!"

disease research successes.
Sasha:
"My doctor is really smart so when she suspected I was in the early stages
of chronic kidney disease, she started treating me right away with special
food and drugs that will help slow my disease. I'm glad MAF is funding
research to help diagnose this disease early so that cats like me can
start being treated right away."
